At age 4 or 5 in kindergarten in Quito, the experiencer collided heads with another child while running in the schoolyard. He went home with nausea and a severe headache. His mother and her cousin became concerned and drove him to the doctor, frantically telling him not to fall asleep during the drive. He was diagnosed with a concussion and reportedly slept for a week at home while recovering.
During this period, he found himself in a pitch-black space that was wider and unconstrained compared to any physical room, bounded only by darkness like a moonless, starless night. Despite being alone in this mysterious space, he felt secure, comfortable, and curious rather than afraid. A bluish-greenish light formed a tunnel with a slow-moving vortex appearance, emitting sounds like murmuring voices that could become deafening but which he could control. The tunnel emanated complete harmony, warmth, and kindness. Four dark figures appeared before the light, and though he couldn't see their features, he sensed their emotions clearly. Two radiated motherly love (one possibly his earthly mother), one seemed to care deeply for him (possibly his father), and the fourth had a protective, authoritative aura (possibly the doctor). A deep, powerful voice without specific source conveyed a wordless message on a soul level. He was told he must return to this world despite not wanting to leave the beautiful eternal realm of all-encompassing love that felt like home. The message included that life is an opportunity to learn and be kind, to share rather than accumulate wealth, care for nature, not fear death or suffering as they are temporary, and that all are part of a compassionate, forgiving unity. He was specifically told he had to return to take care of two of the figures. No veridical observations of the physical environment were reported. The experience was entirely in a transcendent realm without verifiable elements. After recovery, he asked his mother about visitors during his unconscious week and searched for a light source outside his bedroom window but found nothing to explain his experience. The NDE profoundly affected him throughout life, initially causing sensitivity to emotions, enhanced intuition, sleeplessness, and distress from violence. After suppressing the experience during his teens and twenties due to philosophical materialism, he eventually reintegrated it, finding validation through NDE research. Now at 53, married with two children, he considers the experience more real than physical life and continues fulfilling what he understands as his life's message.
