Marianna experienced an ectopic pregnancy requiring emergency surgery in July 1998. Doctors told her she had between two minutes to half an hour to survive. During surgery, she remembered thinking "this is it" as two doctors met her, believing she would not recover due to unbearable pain. She floated toward a bright light feeling calm and wanting to go toward it. She was aware her grandparents were waiting on the other side and felt very calm. A female voice told her it wasn't her time and she had to go back, which disappointed her. She then heard a nurse telling her to wake up. Later she learned the situation was more serious than initially thought - she had one tube removed and had to be revived due to very low blood pressure. The experience changed her outlook on life, making her realize life is precious with only one chance, and led her to attend church more frequently.
