A cardiac anesthesiologist with prostate cancer complications underwent emergency surgery on Christmas Day 2010 for sepsis from an artificial urinary sphincter. During catheter insertion, extreme pain caused consciousness to separate from body. While physically unconscious, he observed surgery from 10-15 feet above, seeing surgeon cut him and smelling pus, noting nurses applying eucalyptus water to masks and hearing anesthesiologist tell an inappropriate joke (later verified). Simultaneously heard family conversation in India about dinner preparations. Initially experienced Hell - wildfire, dark entities with horns, lightning, burning smell, torture with needles and nail bed. Realized his materialistic life lacked love and compassion. Upon feeling remorse, Hell faded. Father appeared with grandfather, led him through tunnel toward white light where he saw past lives (Indian prince, Afghan poppy farmer). Entered meadow with roses, mountains, stream, encountered angels Michael and Raphael. Immersed in formless Blue Light Being who said he must return as "healer of soul" treating addiction, depression, pain, cancer. Saw words "A Course in Miracles" in sky. Recovery was miraculous - sepsis healed in 72 hours. Resigned from anesthesiology within three weeks, downsized lifestyle dramatically, began spiritual healing practice.
