At age six, while racing a friend across a school cafeteria with a jolly rancher candy in her mouth, the subject ran into a table corner. The impact knocked the wind out of her and lodged the candy in her throat, preventing breathing. She became lightheaded, panicked, and tried to stay standing before falling backward. She distinctly felt two large hands catch her back and gently lower her to the ground, though no one was actually there to catch her according to witnesses.
After losing consciousness, she found herself able to breathe again in a bright white void stretching infinitely in all directions. She was sitting cross-legged on an invisible rising platform, surrounded by at least a dozen television screens showing black and white static. She felt intense calm, peace, and apathy, with a sense that everything was okay. The platform suddenly stopped rising, causing a dropping sensation in her stomach. She felt the platform vanish and experienced a pulling sensation backward as she fell down until slamming back into her body. She immediately sat upright, coughing and trying to catch her breath. Her skin felt too tight and she was woozy but otherwise fine. Witnesses reported she had collapsed hard enough to bounce, turned blue with no heartbeat, and her mother performed the Heimlich maneuver and CPR for several minutes before she revived. Since the experience, she has felt disconnected from her body and the world, experiencing hyper-realistic dreams nightly where she can taste, touch, smell and feel pain. She developed migraines, visual snow, and various paranormal experiences. The memory remains vivid decades later, and she still feels that slight disconnection from physical reality that began when she returned to her body.
