A man underwent spinal cord surgery in November 2016 that was initially successful. Two days later, bleeding from the surgical site required emergency return to surgery. In pre-op, lying on a gurney in a dark room, he felt he was going to die. He heard a beautiful waterfall and saw it to his left, telling himself "I'm dead." He then saw the most beautiful blue sky, trees he'd never seen before, and a beautiful mountain in the most peaceful and calm place. He felt God's presence and His arms holding him while they talked. He remained aware of his body on the gurney and didn't want to return, but knew he had to. He decided to count to three to see his body. On "one" he was still looking around in amazement and talking to God. On "two" he was getting ready to see his body. Before reaching "three," he felt like a vacuum sucked him back into his body. He woke up paralyzed on his right side. When asked what happened, doctors said they "lost me for a while." The experience left him with certainty of God's presence and the reality of the afterlife despite the physical challenges of partial paralysis.
