A man undergoing hernia repair surgery flatlined for 2 minutes and 30 seconds with no heartbeat, breathing, or vital signs. He was resuscitated but didn't wake until in the ICU, spending 5 days total in the hospital. During the flatline, he appeared in a large black void where he felt he didn't belong and needed to escape. Looking up, he saw a rectangular hole with diffused white light coming through, like a skylight. As he tried to go through, he felt held back by thick liquid requiring swimming motions to progress. Four ghost-like beings tried to prevent his escape, holding their arms out on each side of the rectangle. He had to push through what felt like plastic strips at a freezer doorway while losing his breath. He struggled against these beings and barriers to reach the light. Upon awakening in real life, he was shaking with slurred speech and confusion. The experience left him with clear memories of the void and his desperate struggle to escape through the light opening while being actively opposed by spiritual entities.
