A young man undergoing emergency appendectomy surgery experienced an NDE after being anesthetized at 5am. Following anesthesia, he awoke in a tunnel with an incredibly bright white light at the end that wasn't blinding. He felt immense peace and love, like hundreds of people hugging him with family love. The light seemed both close and far away simultaneously. Looking outside the light into darkness, he sensed sad, lonely, scared people who wanted to be in the light but couldn't. In the light, he saw his deceased father and grandparents appearing as little flaming balls of orange sunshine, which he understood to be what souls look like. He wanted to join them but was blocked by an invisible wall. He heard his name called from far away twice and felt sucked down into his body like being in a whirlpool. He awoke angry at the nurse for waking him, saying he was in a happy place. He was in recovery only ten minutes before being sent to his room. The doctor confirmed nothing strange happened during surgery. A priest friend later told him it wasn't his time, explaining why he was sent back.
