On March 25, 2002, the experiencer underwent 9.5 hours of surgery for Arnold-Chiari Malformation I to relieve brain compression on the spine. After counting backward from 10 under anesthesia, the experiencer found themselves outside their body watching from the ceiling. They saw their body on the operating table and heard everything with an echoed quality. They experienced pain as staff moved them from back to belly, then retreated to the ceiling again. They found themselves walking down darkening tunnel-like hallways toward a bright light, arriving at an immense conference room requiring sunglasses from the brightness. Deceased relatives and friends surrounded the table: step-dad L (died 1988) at the head, friend E to his right, grandparents and great-grandmothers (including one never met) to the left. Communication occurred telepathically through minds without moving lips. They said the experiencer's job wasn't finished and they needed to return. A closed door at the end of the table emitted even brighter light - they were told entering it meant passing to the other side. Upon waking in ICU, the experiencer was excited to tell everyone but was asked to background it during recovery. When asked about possibly dying temporarily, the neurosurgeon seemed insulted. Since the event, the experiencer developed increased sensitivity and psychic abilities, including vibrational healing abilities discovered in 2003. People with late-stage cancer seek their help, though they don't fully understand why. They work in healthcare where they can practice their gift unnoticed, never taking money for fear the gift would disappear. They provide readings about people but keep their abilities mostly private.
