On February 28, 1987, around 10 AM, the experiencer was trying to help his friend retrieve a cockatiel from a tree using a swimming pool pole while on a ladder 25 feet high. When the pole came within 22-24 inches of a high-tension power line, electricity arced across the air using him as ground. His vision turned completely red, and he saw flashes of light approaching at tremendous speed with a 60 Hz hum that increased in volume. He experienced three successive electrical shocks, losing complete bodily control. After the third shock, everything went black - no time, sound, or light. Upon awakening, he saw his friend Russell working to save his life but felt separated by a glass pane, frozen in time. When he looked around, he realized he was sitting on the fence watching the accident from a bird's eye view while his body was on the ground. Suddenly the environment changed to a large white room with no walls, so bright there were no shadows. Hundreds of transparent human-shaped figures without facial features approached him. One threw a bolt of light that struck his back, paralyzing him for 7-10 seconds before he broke free and ran. He came upon a white water-like moving surface, fell in, and immediately returned to consciousness in his backyard. The experiencer emphasizes this was real, not a dream, describing being pulled and pushed to different places without control, fundamentally different from normal experience.
