The experiencer had Hodgkin's disease and was undergoing chemotherapy when severe pulmonary toxicity, anemia, and fluid around the lungs and heart led to respiratory failure while lying alone on a Saturday morning. During the experience, everything including the experiencer's body dissipated into mist, revealing a singular reality beyond the insubstantial nature of matter. This reality had consciousness, personality, and characteristics of overwhelming kindness, joy, and love - described as immediately lovable as a kitten. The experiencer felt the reality's attention directed toward them with the quality of a new mother holding her firstborn child, full of love, joy, delight, and fascination. Time had no meaning in this state, and the experiencer realized they had always been embedded within, bathed in, and cradled by this loving reality. Feeling deeply ashamed to have underestimated its love and joy, the experiencer offered to return to physical life as the biggest sacrifice they could imagine, never wanting to feel separate from this reality again. The fog reformed and rebuilt the world, gently returning them to their body. The experiencer cried for weeks afterward, profoundly affected by the overwhelming love and unity experienced.
