On July 4, 2004, Cindy was hospitalized for unknown causes, later requiring appendectomy. Post-surgery in her room with family, her mother noticed the drain tube rapidly filling with blood. After multiple tube emptyings, internal bleeding was recognized. The surgeon held her pulse at bedside to prevent death until emergency surgery could be prepared. By surgery time, she had lost consciousness and flatlined twice. During this crisis, she found herself in a dark tunnel with space on each side, floating toward intensely bright light shining through a crack in a door. The light was so brilliant it hurt her eyes. Something draped over her shoulders like a wrap, and a voice instructed her to ask for forgiveness, which she did saying "Oh Lord forgive me." The voice then told her to ask for help, which she also did. While urgently moving toward the light, she heard her mother saying "Cindy please don't leave me like this." She felt a great hurry to reach the light, with brightness increasingly overtaking the door. Almost entering, the voice said "Cindy you have a short time." She felt intense anger at not being allowed to stay, remaining upset for days. Upon awakening, she insisted to family that she had died despite their denials, then recounted the experience.
