At age 14 in Anaheim, California, this young man developed osteomyelitis that was initially mistreated by doctors. A poison pocket on his left shoulder burst after a doctor used heat and electrical treatments, spreading infection throughout his body. His left arm became massively swollen, hard and red, resembling Popeye's arm. He could barely see or walk when his mother admitted him to Anaheim hospital in critical condition.
He remembers only the first five minutes in the emergency room and a brief moment on the operating table, then awakened two weeks later naked between two extremely cold black ice blankets with temperature at 103°F, with IV and monitoring devices attached. During the two-week unconscious period, he experienced being in pure bliss on the "Other Side," floating in cosmic soup of another dimension. The experience was characterized by overwhelming peace and bliss that made it challenging to tolerate returning to the three-dimensional world. He later connected the severe illness to internalizing trauma from his parents' divorce at age 12. The month-long hospitalization and difficult re-entry included dealing with a new stepfather very different from his vaudeville magician father. The lasting impact includes permanent spiritual hunger for truth, leading him to become a student of Self Realization Fellowship (SRF). He maintains gratitude for the experience and connection to his mother who is now on the "Other Side." The experience fundamentally altered his perspective on existence and spiritual reality.
