On Good Friday, April 13, 1990, a 30-year-old Vietnamese-American man experienced a horrific head-on collision that claimed three lives including his fiancée. Having survived the Vietnam War and rebuilt his life in America as a successful Silicon Valley engineer, he was planning a December wedding when the crash occurred while returning from Carmel. He was the sole survivor of the devastating accident.
At the moment of impact after seeing headlights, he saw his fiancée moving toward a bright light and followed her. As she entered the light, she turned and told him "You cannot come because you still have something to do!" He immediately felt heaviness and found himself back in his body with blood and pain, seeing her resting on the dashboard without visible wounds. The paramedics later informed him she had suffered massive brain injury. While in the emergency room feeling hopeless and lost, he heard a loud voice saying in Vietnamese "You plan things, I make things happen!" recognizing this as God's voice. A Vietnamese proverb appeared in his mind: "Man proposes, God disposes." He made a vow to follow God's will, receiving a second chance at life. One contact lens remained on the windshield, indicating his eyes were open during impact, yet he survived what should have been fatal injuries. Later experiences included being summoned to a palace with 24 Elders and a throne with powerful divine presence, receiving a book and assignment to be an effective witness of God's grace and love. He received a cross from a friend as confirmation of his calling. Subsequent visions included attempting suicide three times before his fiancée and Jesus appeared, stopping him. The experience led him to understand death as transition, navigation in spiritual realms through thought, and development of abilities to help others in transition.
