In summer 1998, a 45-year-old woman teaching at a music school in Copenhagen experienced sudden chest pain and pressure while descending stairs after a student concert. Having had similar symptoms two weeks prior with normal ECG results, she attempted to walk home but worsening symptoms forced her to take a bus to the hospital. Porters rushed her to emergency in a wheelchair where doctors found ischemia and abnormal ECG with ST depression, treating her with nitroglycerin spray.
While alone in the cardiac ward, she suddenly saw and heard a children's choir singing beautifully at the foot of her bed. She recognized all 33 children as her former violin pupils from London years earlier, whom she had taught when they were ages 3-8. She received the message that her teaching had been good enough and that she had meant much to each child, seeing her teaching and relationships from their perspectives. Simultaneously, a counter making ratchet-like sounds appeared on the right, measuring the amount of love in every thought and action of her life at lightning speed. A column of green light grew higher as love was counted and measured during this rapid life review. The experience made crystal clear that the only thing that matters in life is how loving thoughts and actions are. She had theoretically known this before but now truly understood it. The experience ended abruptly when a male nurse injected medication into her left hand. She was diagnosed with possible Prinzmetal's angina, though a 2017 scan revealed a congenital right coronary artery anomaly. She kept the experience secret for years until hearing Pim van Lommel speak in 2018, after which she discovered four of five patients in her cardiac rehabilitation group had also experienced NDEs but never discussed them.
