During an appendectomy under anesthesia, the experiencer suddenly felt a disturbing inability to breathe. Despite trying with all their force six to eight times, there was no connection between brain and lungs. They knew they were dying and were aware of being operated on. Expecting fear, they were pleasantly surprised to feel none. They stopped trying to breathe, let go, and became acutely aware this was the end, yet remained unafraid.
Instantly, they found themselves high above the operating table observing everyone rushing around their body. They could see the medical team talking rapidly but couldn't hear anything. They felt remarkably clear with access to all consciousness from their entire life, able to pull any thought or information if needed, though they felt no need to do so. They thought "Why are they freaking out like this? Everything will be fine!" Then they felt several strong, very cold blows of forced air into their lungs and were no longer above the table, thinking "They did it!" They experienced nothing more until waking from anesthesia. When they asked what happened, staff confirmed cardiac arrest and were very surprised the patient knew about it. Since the experience, their life hasn't changed significantly and they've only told a few people. However, they've developed increased sensitivity and an intuitive ability to "know" things - not foresight, but discovering awareness that something would happen a certain way, usually only recognizing this foreknowledge after events have occurred.
