On June 16, 1996 (Father's Day), while living in Saudi Arabia, the experiencer underwent her fourth C-section to deliver her daughter Maha at 35 weeks gestation. She had been hospitalized repeatedly during the pregnancy due to premature labor and being too ill to travel back to the United States. After being put under anesthesia, she experienced swimming at the bottom of a pool looking up at blue sky and sunshine, similar to a summer afternoon underwater view. Beautiful soft music with violins played - a song she's never heard before or since but still remembers. She struggled repeatedly to reach the surface for air, looking down to see a bright white stone path lined with crowds of welcoming people waving hello. Jesus appeared at the path's end.
She felt torn between swimming to the surface and going down the inviting path. On her final look down, she heard her grandmother's voice (who died in 1981) saying "Honey you have to go back now, we aren't ready for you. Maha needs you." Without seeing her grandmother, she felt pushed, broke through the water's surface taking a huge gulp of air like after being underwater too long. She could see herself in a childhood swimsuit breaking through the water. Monitors were alarming with staff speaking multiple languages in confusion. Her husband leaned over saying "Don't leave me, come back. Just breathe sweetheart." She learned she had respiratory arrest and was dead for three minutes, later confirmed as anesthesia overdose. Remarkably, her two teenage sons in the waiting room were simultaneously thrown to their knees by a powerful force and began praying in Arabic (which they didn't speak well) that their mother wouldn't die. They received the message "God was in control" and understood the Arabic perfectly. Both sons independently reported identical experiences. The experiencer uses memories of the pool's peace and music to manage stress, no longer fears death, but struggles with mental processing since the event. Her husband claimed their marriage ended with her death, and she was treated for PTSD upon returning to the States.
