The experiencer was hospitalized for approximately one week with severe asthma causing breathing difficulties. They had an intuition something was wrong and asked the night nurse to watch them, keeping their door open against usual practice. After declining a midnight breathing treatment to avoid jitteriness, they were awakened by an urgent voice commanding them to push the call button immediately. Despite this not being their normal internal voice, they responded instantly. Their body wasn't responding properly - they struggled to reach the call button, their head dropping, arms barely working. They managed to weakly call "I can't breathe" before their body began failing with legs, chest, and arms flailing in desperate attempts to inhale.
A nurse rushed in thinking it was a nightmare, then immediately called a code blue upon realizing the severity. The respiratory therapist yelled at them to breathe while rubbing their chest and face. Despite seeing the serious looks in the medical team's eyes, they lost the ability to respond, then their vision, though hearing continued briefly. After questioning if they were dying, they suddenly entered an indescribably beautiful, bright golden light that wasn't blinding. They became part of it, moving at amazing speed through this light to an open space where they saw countless people outlined in light - no clothing, no distinct faces or gender, extending as far as they could see. They felt instantly loved, accepted, and at peace with no fear or pain - the most love they'd ever experienced. They had rapid dialogue about their life and how beautiful everything was. Then they were shown their resuscitation scene from above - the respiratory therapist with an ambu bag, ER doctor controlling the code, nurses and aids around their bed in a wrecked room. Realizing they hadn't said goodbye to anyone, they felt pulled back as air was pushed into their lungs. They awakened to blinding room light with excruciating burning pain throughout their body before relaxing and remaining largely unconscious for weeks.
