In 1972, seven weeks after giving birth to her third child, the experiencer was rushed to hospital with heavy bleeding, loss of sight, and massive stomach cramps believed to be blood poisoning. During a medical procedure under anesthetic, she experienced a profound NDE. She had absolute knowledge she was dying as her body shut down from her right toe upward. She entered a terrifying white tunnel like a slide, moving feet-first in a slalom ride that grew faster, accompanied by terrifying noise. The tunnel turned dark and seemed to narrow. She experienced intense fear and desolation, crying inconsolably.
Suddenly she found herself standing beside her hospital bed observing the scene. She could see the doctor bent over her body, visibly upset trying to awaken her. She attempted to reassure him it was okay since she was dead, but he couldn't hear or feel her touch. She noted she was standing in a space that couldn't physically accommodate a person. After returning to darkness, she emerged into a vast space with an arched sky of inky dark blue filled with billions of stars. The air felt like warm liquid velvet. She floated in overwhelming peace and comfort. A beautiful, deep voice full of love spoke telepathically from over her left shoulder saying "Your time is not now. You must go back to your children. They need you." Despite her protests, the voice insisted her newborn and other children needed her. Upon return, she was severely depressed and spent six months on antidepressants for presumed postnatal depression. Unable to access medical records and with no one willing to discuss the event, she remained confused until discovering NDE literature ten years later. The experience transformed her life in wonderful ways - she lost all fear of death and gained certainty about the continuation of consciousness and the existence of a loving source.
