A 21-year-old woman in a California mental health treatment facility, struggling with emotional regulation and depression, attempted suicide by taking a whole bottle of Tegretol after a failed attempt with a knife. She called police regretting the action, was taken to the hospital where she initially felt fine, then began acting strangely with uncontrollable laughter. Staff were hostile and accusatory toward her. She began passing out repeatedly, feeling air leave her body, experiencing complete blackness with no memory, thinking as an atheist "See there really is nothing after you die." She also smelled iron or sulfur that staff dismissed.
After multiple episodes of losing consciousness, staff found her not breathing. When told to walk to another room, she collapsed and died for 3-5 minutes, requiring CPR. During her NDE, she appeared in a dark, gloomy park resembling one from Maryland, similar to the "upside-down" from Stranger Things. She encountered Death as a man in a black hoodie whose presence felt familiar. He sat with her saying "Well here we are again," and when asked how to escape, demonstrated on a giant hamster wheel that repeating mistakes leads to worse places. They walked past a pit of black and red muck representing despair. Death led her to a cabinet identical to the one she'd taken pills from, which opened to reveal bright light that hugged and enveloped her with unending, undying love - an emotion never felt on Earth without pain or suffering. She recognized this as home and wanted to stay, but chose to return for her parents. The light transformed into the nurse's flashlight as she returned. A nurse coldly informed her she'd been dead for 5 minutes. The experience didn't immediately change her - suicide attempts worsened afterward and she was hospitalized. Six years later in 2020 during quarantine, the memory's impact hit fully, leading to Christian conversion. She now struggles with wanting to die again to get answers, viewing death as a path to understanding rather than something to fear.
