A nurse underwent cardiac ablation for atrial fibrillation lasting nine hours under general anesthesia. Despite initial confidence, she felt uneasy about the procedure. During ablation of multiple "hot spots," her heart stopped after the second ablation and restarted spontaneously. On the third ablation, her heart stopped again and remained in asystole (flatlined). During this cardiac arrest, she suddenly heard people rushing around, instruments hitting metal trays, and someone saying "Oh my God it's a very high degree heart block." Understanding the medical significance, she felt no fear or pain but thought "whatever." She found herself somewhere warm and comfortable, sensing but not seeing a white room with no doors or windows. She experienced complete and utter love unlike any earthly love and felt she was not alone, though no one appeared. She didn't care if she survived. Upon awakening hours later with an external pacemaker sustaining her lower heart function, she learned she had been in critical condition for six days before receiving a permanent pacemaker. When asked by the doctor before the second procedure, she involuntarily blurted out "Just don't let me die," then made excuses for the statement. Post-experience, she had nightmares, panic attacks, and delayed memories of the NDE, along with guilt about not wanting to return. Remarkably, she stayed awake for six days straight in the hospital despite her weakened condition. As a nurse, she now knows people don't experience pain when dying as the soul disconnects from the physical body.
