A college sophomore in a rigorous engineering program, exhausted and depressed with chronic asthma, experienced an NDE while alone in their dorm room. During a severe asthma attack combined with overwhelming depression, they stated they didn't care if they stopped breathing and died. They involuntarily arched their back and knew they died. The experience involved being enveloped by magnificent, brilliant light radiating love, peace, and understanding. Without seeing their physical body, they believed they were kneeling at the base of an enormous white marble throne they never actually saw - an act of voluntary submission and reverence. After what felt like an eternity but was instantaneous, they were hurled back through their chest into their body. Immediately upon return, they found complete freedom from asthma that continues to this day. Unlike typical NDEs, there was no tunnel, deceased relatives, life review, or command to return. The experience led to intense spiritual hunger, leading them to explore various Christian denominations before leaving organized religion, finding the doctrines too restricting compared to their firsthand divine encounter. They found the Tao Te Ching's description most aligned with their experience. For ten years afterward, they possessed extraordinary ESP abilities, particularly reading and comforting others' grief and pain, though this gradually dissipated after leaving church.
