Karen's throat completely closed due to a bacterial infection of her larynx on May 6, 2004. Unable to speak or breathe, she experienced clinical death. In that moment, her thoughts turned to God and her family, thinking she was ready if it was her time but regretting not being able to say goodbye or express her love to her husband and boys.
Rather than angels and lights, Karen found herself in total darkness - but it was not scary. The darkness was comforting, like being held by a soft glove. In this peaceful void, she heard a male voice she had never heard before. The voice was reassuring and sounded like velvet with no rasp at all. When she thought about not getting to tell her family she loved them, the voice said slowly and clearly: "They already know." This brought her total calm and peace.
