The experiencer was hospitalized for a severe anaphylactic reaction to shellfish that recurred every four hours in a biphasic pattern. During an episode on the observation floor, respiratory treatment with albuterol failed to work and the patient's airway closed completely. A Code Blue was called as the patient lost consciousness. The experience began with a profound deafening silence followed by slow motion perception before everything stopped. The patient found themselves at the foot of the bed observing their own body curled up on the bed, viewing the scene from an out-of-body perspective. They experienced intense heat and heard a male voice that sounded like an ex-boyfriend commanding them to "Get up, get up." Upon this command, they immediately returned to consciousness. Remarkably, while still unconscious with eyes closed, the patient sat up and administered their own EpiPen injection from their purse, saving their own life while medical staff waited for missing epinephrine from the crash cart. The patient reports ongoing PTSD symptoms including flashbacks, blackouts, and a persistent feeling of having left part of their spirit in that hospital room.
