A 35-year-old divisional manager had an aortic dissection at home in Las Vegas. The heart repair surgery went well, but instead of waking 24 hours later, he went into a two-month coma. One month in, doctors told his wife and boss he wouldn't survive the night as his kidneys had failed, requiring dialysis and ventilator support. His right leg was amputated above the knee due to compartmental syndrome poisoning his body. Just before waking from the coma, he walked through a long dark corridor where a raspy voice he believed was Satan repeatedly called his name, saying "Don't go into the light come into the darkness. The grass isn't any greener on the other side." Each time, he responded "Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. He is the way, truth and life" - the only scripture he had memorized. Satan eventually left. He continued walking toward a faint glow that grew bigger and brighter. As he was about to enter what he felt was Heaven, a lady's voice of obvious authority said "Don't go into the light. It is not your time yet." He bowed his head in disappointment. He then awoke from his coma staring at his wife's face, unable to speak or move initially, desperately wanting to tell her what he had seen. She eventually managed to read his lips.
