In June 1972, 14-year-old John B was riding his bicycle down a hill toward Route 31 when he couldn't stop for the stop sign due to his speed. He decided to dash across the highway and was broadsided by a car traveling over 40 mph, shattering his left leg on impact.

Everything went into slow motion at impact - he felt no pain but was aware of being hit. After hitting the windshield (leaving a large depression in the glass) and being thrown about 50 feet, everything went black momentarily. Then he was looking down at the accident scene from above. He saw himself on the ground in fetal position on his right side, wearing his blue shirt and jeans. His metallic blue Schwinn five-speed was mangled.

From above, he watched as someone approached from behind, kneeled, and touched his shoulder - it was another driver who had stopped. At that moment, he realized it really was his body down there on Route 31. A few seconds later, he was "sucked" back into his body and saw the pavement close-up.

The experience changed his perspective on death - he no longer fears it, knowing there is something on the other side. He remains convinced that the mind is a function of the universe, not just the body.

--- Biblical Summary ---
Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience with consciousness surviving bodily trauma aligns with biblical teaching about the soul/spirit being distinct from the physical body. The perspective of observing from above reflects accounts of spiritual perception.

Unbiblical elements: None identified. The experience contains no elements contradicting biblical teaching about consciousness surviving physical death.
