In 2002, a 23-year-old woman experienced a catastrophic post-partum hemorrhage when her impatient doctor forcefully pulled her placenta, inverting her uterus. The doctor turned pale with terror and told her she was going to die as blood convulsed from her body at an alarming rate. Staff rushed family from the room as she began losing consciousness. In that moment, time and space ceased to exist, and she began communing with a presence that felt like it had always been with her. She bargained transparently with this presence about her desire to live and raise her children.
As she lost bodily sensation starting from her toes and traveling upward, she experienced overwhelming assurance that she would survive. Despite being rushed to emergency surgery, she felt complete peace unlike anything before or since. Medical staff seemed unable to hear her attempts to reassure them she would be okay. She experienced being tucked into a "universal blanket" by the loving presence, seeing no lights or visions but letting go into an infinitely peaceful and loving dark embrace. Her heart stopped multiple times during the night. She awakened strapped to a hospital bed, intubated, with no pain medication as she was too weak for it. Though medical staff thought she was unconscious, she was aware though possibly out of body. Unlike everyone else, she was not surprised by her survival, having received divine assurance during the experience. The experience transformed her perspective entirely. Throughout her pregnancy, she had felt an unnatural foreboding, flinching when passing funeral homes and wondering if each household task would be her last. The NDE confirmed her premonitions had meaning but also brought profound gratitude for her return to raise her children.
