On their 47th birthday, the subject went running to lose weight gained after quitting smoking three months prior. Their son accompanied on bicycle. Upon returning home, they experienced severe chest pain while cooling down in the living room. Despite their son's concern, they insisted not to call paramedics. Their daughter found them making strange breathing noises in the chair. The subject remembers trying to breathe with all their strength, knowing their heart had stopped and brain needed oxygen, but realizing blood couldn't circulate without heartbeat, they stopped trying. Though dead, their mind remained active. They remember neighbors staring but were upset no one was helping. While dead, they observed life from an emotional distance, like watching an anthill. They saw people at a graveyard moving toward a grave with a casket, unable to understand why people were crying, thinking it strange and wasteful. Death felt quite nice with no feelings of loss or regret about leaving earth. They believe they went "further through the world on the other side" but cannot remember details. They underwent two years of psychotherapy afterward, initially having no emotions which gradually returned completely. They understand emotions help us "feel" life properly. They look forward to leaving this dimension when their time comes but know suicide won't get them there.
