On September 17, 2001, the subject had a hysterectomy for fibroids and endometriosis. The surgeon failed to remove endometriosis from the bowels and right ovary as agreed, causing complete bowel obstruction by year's end. On December 30, they heard God tell them to stop eating. After New Year's Eve church service, they began vomiting black material. On January 4, 2002, they went to the ER with severe pain but were sent home with laxatives. January 5, they returned with severe vomiting and dehydration and were admitted. Tests continued until Wednesday when the blockage was discovered. During a barium enema procedure, the pain was so severe they demanded sedation. Under sedation, they remember Jesus walking them to Heaven. They emerged from darkness into a bright white room where they could see through the wall to rolling green fields, trees, blue sky, and people walking, sitting, conversing, and reading. Jesus communicated that they could go to heaven or stay on Earth. Despite being tired of pain, they chose to stay for their husband and son. Jesus smiled and said "okay." They woke to the surgeon saying "Welcome back! That was close!" Their husband later confirmed they were 30 minutes from death. The experience gave them confidence in raising their son, eliminated fear of death, and created a desire to help others overcome fear of dying.
