A young woman surfing with friends encountered dangerous conditions when weather worsened rapidly. Dense fog obscured the shore as she paddled back alone. A powerful wave sucked her down, slamming her to the ocean floor with tremendous force. The unusual current pinned and violently tumbled her, preventing escape. Despite being a strong swimmer with excellent lung capacity, she couldn't free herself and was dragged deeper out to sea. The burning pain in her lungs became unbearable as she fought the urge to gasp for air. Suddenly the pain vanished and she floated upward, seeing below her a terrifying sight - a woman lying lifeless on the ocean floor. An overwhelming feeling of "mercy" filled the entire ocean with unprecedented power. She then realized she was looking at her own body and no longer felt part of it, experiencing calm and feeling like she was breathing underwater. Looking up from 12 feet under, she saw bright light at the surface (despite stormy weather) streaming down naturally but unlike sunlight. After lingering peacefully, she realized she needed to swim hard toward the light. Approaching the surface, she felt she was breathing underwater. Upon surfacing, she was repeatedly crushed by waves until a calm male voice instructed her to do the backstroke. The voice later yelled "PADDLE!" She followed the guidance, reached shore, and survived. She later became an NYPD officer and 9/11 first responder, feeling the drowning incident had prepared her for that trauma.
