In 1980, a farm tractor accident on an apple ranch in Washington led to a profound near-death experience spanning two and a half hours of clinical death. After the accident, the injured man struggled to reach the ranch house where his half-brother (the ranch boss) called for ambulances. When emergency responders attempted to insert an airway, severe throat swelling prevented standard treatment. His brother intervened to prevent an emergency tracheotomy, insisting on using a child-sized airway instead. At the hospital, defibrillator paddles were used to restart his heart after cardiac arrest.
Upon losing consciousness when the defibrillator paddles were rubbed together, he awoke in a dark room under a sheet, feeling completely fine and fully dressed despite being in a hospital bed. Suddenly, the corner of the ceiling began spinning rapidly over his left shoulder until the roof opened. Unable to grip the bed as his fingers passed through it, he was pulled feet-first into a tunnel. Initially drawn toward a fiery area, his prayer "Oh no God, please don't let me die here today" redirected him into a more pleasant tunnel of subdued light with cloud-like formations visible through the floor. The journey continued through tunnels with disorienting turns into a realm where he encountered his ancestors - great-grandfathers from 1865 including one in Civil War Confederate uniform, a state senator, a man on horseback approaching Mohawk Indians and British troops, and finally a king's silhouette whose crown light nearly blinded him. After passing through darkness and experiencing burning chest pain (likely from resuscitation attempts), he felt a sudden cleansing and joined others flowing through a massive doorway into blinding white light. He found himself floating above an immense brick fence extending for miles, too tall for anyone to cross, with a forbidden black area on one side that meant instant death to observe. The setting included two tall cedar trees, green pastures, and distant trees on a sloping hill. In this waiting area without gates, a robed man with sandals confirmed someone would come soon and warned about the deadly black zone. When lifted up and placed on his back, he heard a wonderful, familiar voice declare: "It is not yet your time to be here. You must go back." Despite begging to stay or at least know his mission, he was told he would only understand his purpose when the time came. After two and a half hours of death with rigor mortis setting in, he awoke in the hospital where the doctor expressed amazement at his survival, having expected to bury him within 12 hours.
