The individual experienced an unplanned overdose that led to a profound near-death experience. As the effects began, they felt themselves starting to tremble, and the next moment found themselves outside their body, looking down at their physical form lying below. This out-of-body perspective brought no fear whatsoever as they observed themselves; instead, they felt completely at peace with the situation.
While hovering above their body, they clearly remember saying, "If this is death, it's wonderful." The statement reflected their genuine amazement at how peaceful and pleasant the experience felt, contrary to any fears they might have previously held about dying. Around them, they became aware of some kind of beings arranged in a circular formation, though they couldn't make out specific details about these entities. Despite not being able to identify them clearly, they felt entirely comfortable and safe in their presence. Beyond the circle of beings, there was a light visible in the distance, drawing their attention but remaining separate from their immediate experience. The wonderful feeling continued until they were told they couldn't stay. They recall no anger or disappointment at receiving this news - everything seemed matter-of-fact and accepted without emotional resistance. The experience left such a positive impression that even a severe heart attack in 2001, which included cardiac arrest induced by medical dye, did not produce a similar near-death experience. The contrast between this spontaneous, peaceful overdose experience and the absence of any NDE during a later life-threatening cardiac event suggests that near-death experiences may not be purely physiological responses to dying. The overwhelming sense that death was "wonderful" and the calm acceptance of having to return transformed their understanding of death from something to fear into something peacefully transcendent.
