In March 2000, while driving home at night, a person's last memory was waving goodbye to a friend before entering total darkness. They experienced no fear or pain, just nothingness that felt embracing and calm. They had never felt such intense peace and euphoria, describing it as almost beyond words. They felt themselves sinking deeper into the blackness and were more than happy to go with it, aware of the intensity while allowing themselves to sink deeper. The feeling was so intense they were content to continue, realizing that if they kept going further, they would die.
What jolted them was the sudden thought "What about my family?" and how their departure would impact them. Despite not wanting to leave this peaceful place, they felt a struggle emerging within. They remember arguing to go back to live, being told it was impossible or couldn't happen - that they were too injured. Their overwhelming anxiety for family made them fight against the sucking feeling of darkness. These were not verbal conversations but rather dialogue sensed mentally. The will to fight became overpowering as they made the conscious choice to live rather than die. They experienced the darkness rushing away and suddenly taking a deep breath, as if someone had held their head underwater and they gasped fiercely for air. Upon regaining consciousness, everything was crystal clear and vivid, though they were extremely confused about their location and circumstances. They heard voices, saw lights, felt groggy and disoriented, lapsing in and out of consciousness. They were trapped in metal, experiencing terror and fight-or-flight response but unable to move. A 40-ton semi-trailer had run a red light and hit their car on the driver's side while they were going through an intersection. They were trapped and had to be extracted. They survived with only a fractured collar bone and bruising, which everyone who saw the car considered miraculous. In the following months, they experienced strange happiness and detachment. Though their injuries weren't life-threatening, they believe they were dying during the darkness experience and had to fight to stay alive. They cannot fully explain the experience but consider it miraculous.
