On June 19, 1977, at 1:20 a.m., a man was involved in a high-speed car accident that resulted in vehicular homicide charges. Driving at approximately 80 mph, the car hit gravel and slid into trees. The driver's nose was nearly torn from his face and he was bleeding from his right ear, lying unconscious in the back of a police car. His friend, who had been unable to buckle his seatbelt, was killed in the crash. The experiencer suffered severe facial trauma with his finger able to go up inside his sinus cavity.
During his unconscious state, he experienced leaving his body, watching himself from about three feet behind as his body fell to the street. His vision shifted to looking down through tree branches at the accident scene below, seeing his brother's car, police cars, an ambulance, and groups of people. He and his deceased friend both realized simultaneously "we are dead." A voice identifying as "Father" (which he recognized as Christ) told him not to be afraid. He then witnessed a 360-degree panoramic life review showing corridors of images from age two onward, stacked one in front of the other running away and up. The experience included remarkable veridical elements. He was transported to his mother's bedroom where the dog responded to his presence. He visited his younger brother's room, then traveled 12 miles to his older brother Charles's apartment, seeing him reaching for the door with a shadowy figure beside him. He tried repeatedly to communicate with Charles, saying "Get me out of this." He then traveled 15 miles to his father's apartment, observing him reading a newspaper on the couch. Throughout these visits, the voice asked him to confirm the identity of each family member. After the life review and family visits, he saw an image of himself in a white robe, head bowed, appearing to hang like a coat on a hook. A blue-white sesame seed of light approached with increasing sound frequency, merging with him as light poured into his head. He regained consciousness in handcuffs, learning his friend had died. Later, at a party weeks afterward, Leslie Harris confirmed the veridical aspect by revealing she was with his brother Charles the night of the accident, and Charles had suddenly said "something has happened" - validating that the experiencer had indeed been present at his brother's apartment during the NDE.
