At approximately age three, a child experienced their first severe asthma attack. The parents, having no prior experience with asthma, didn't understand what was happening or how to respond. By the time they reached the hospital, the child was "stone cold blue" from lack of oxygen, indicating severe cyanosis and respiratory failure. The severity of the situation deeply upset the mother, who could not discuss it in detail years later due to the emotional trauma of nearly losing her child.
During this medical crisis, the child had what they initially remembered as a dream but later recognized as a near-death experience. They awoke in a dream state and decided to search for God, flying up through clouds into outer space. After flying for a long time, they entered more clouds and were drawn to a bright light. As they approached, the light communicated telepathically, with each word causing the light to brighten and dim rhythmically. Initially, the light gently scolded them, asking what they were doing there since it wasn't their time yet and they had to return. Despite being told to go back, the experiencer lingered, apologetic but disappointed, stalling while bathing in the warmth and unconditional love emanating from the light. As they absorbed this divine light and love, they felt the depth and breadth of eternal knowledge and the wisdom of ages within themselves. This profound connection to universal understanding left an indelible mark on their consciousness. Reluctantly, they returned to their body, but life was fundamentally transformed by the experience. The impact was lasting and profound. No subsequent religious education could override their direct experience of God, and they never believed in hell based on what they had learned. They maintained abilities to fly in dreams and commune with ethereal entities on the other side throughout their life. It wasn't until college, when learning about Raymond Moody and Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's work on NDEs, that they recognized their childhood "dream" as a near-death experience and confirmed the medical details with their parents.
