During a work presentation, an individual experienced severe heartburn, burning between shoulder blades, and chest pressure. A nurse coworker recognized heart attack symptoms and helped transport them via scooter to a vehicle. The pain was so intense they could barely breathe during transport to the emergency room, where testing showed normal EKG but elevated troponin levels indicating cardiac insult. They were later diagnosed with viral myocarditis.
At the peak of pain, they suddenly left their body and entered complete darkness with no pain, only total peace. Looking around curiously, they observed a pulsing light with yellow and pink tones before them, recognizing it as their true form with calm acceptance. Feeling warmth from the left, they turned toward a beautiful distant glow and instantly remembered EVERYTHING - their true identity, life purpose, and what "home" really was. Overcome with excitement and joy at being back, they surged toward the light. Just as suddenly, they returned to their body being offloaded from the scooter, experiencing gut-punch pain and inability to speak. They felt intense anger at being back in their body rather than continuing toward the light. The emergency room confirmed cardiac damage through troponin levels despite normal EKG readings. This experience remains clearer than any memory, dream, or other life experience. They experienced themselves as their true self without physical, emotional, or bodily concerns. The encounter provided lasting gratitude and knowledge that daily life has purpose beyond this reality, death is something to anticipate after a productive life of learning and contributing, and reunion with loved ones is certain.
