In June 1988, a 19-year-old woman with severe asthma experienced medication toxicity that led to a life-threatening crisis. After feeling ill at lunch with trembling hands, fever, and nausea, she was initially treated for heat stroke. That night, her identical twin sister found her having a severe seizure - back arched, head drawn back, rigid, with mucus from her mouth, gasping for air. She stopped breathing and turned bluish-grey before her sister performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge mucus, allowing her to breathe again while continuing to seize.
At the hospital, uncontrolled seizures led to dangerously high vital signs and cardiac arrest. She was shocked back to life but then experienced dangerously low vitals and entered a 3.5-day coma in Cardiac ICU. During this time, she experienced leaving her body as a light, buoyant ball of energy, observing from the corner of her room looking diagonally down at her body connected to machines. She witnessed her supervisor gasp and cover her mouth upon seeing her, wanting to comfort her but unable to communicate. She existed in what she describes as a timeless, expansive void filled with incredible peace and the energy of love - a powerful, amazing sense she didn't want to leave yet knew she couldn't stay. Her identical twin sister, laying her head on the patient's chest on the final day of the coma, suddenly saw a vision of her sister in full hospital garb with bright light behind her, saying "Don't worry, I'm going to be okay. I have a lot to tell you." The sister ran to tell family she would be okay, and the patient emerged from the coma shortly after. Upon waking, medically paralyzed with hands restrained, on a ventilator, she heard echoing words and managed to squeeze a hand when asked, though it took hours to recognize her crying mother. After weeks of therapy, she made a full recovery with no permanent damage despite lethal enzyme levels. Her doctor called it a miracle, saying something intervened and she had a purpose in life. The experience left her extremely sensitive, experiencing "movies" showing people's healing needs, eventually learning to manage these abilities through meditation, Reiki, and spiritual practices.
