The experiencer became a Christian around age 10-11 with an incredibly emotional conversion. Shortly after, while sleeping beside his grandmother's bed, he experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (witnessed by grandmother), with overwhelming peace and love almost identical to his later NDE. After gradually seeking peer acceptance, he moved away from this closeness with God. A resurgence of faith at 17 was eventually smothered by a sexual affair.
While preparing to move in with his girlfriend, he had secretly prayed for God to deliver him through marriage or other means. Driving to collect her belongings for the move, they were rear-ended by a large pickup truck at high speed. He was knocked unconscious for an undetermined time. Though now vague, the memory remains very real - he saw/felt a place with light similar to many NDE drawings, with people emanating love toward him. He wanted to go where they were but viewed from a distance. He realized he was physically fine and couldn't go there because his body was intact. Becoming conscious, he briefly didn't know where or who he was. The incredible peace turned to upset upon realizing there was an accident. He began sobbing "I'm sorry" thinking he'd hurt someone, but was told it wasn't his fault. After ensuring everyone including his girlfriend (now wife) was okay, he became carefree, joking with the ambulance driver who found it disturbing. At the hospital, he pretended to be dying as a joke to a nurse before stopping himself. Diagnosed with a concussion, he lost two weeks of memory before the wreck, slowly recovering all but the final five minutes. The experience reminded him of his Pentecostal baptism and reinforced his Christian faith. He still embraces many NDE aftereffects listed on IANDS website.
