In 1970, during her first son's birth (8 lbs 4 oz, posterior position), the experiencer had a frightening OBE. She heard the doctor say they could save the baby but probably not her due to hemorrhaging and uterus not contracting. She watched from the ceiling, yelling for them not to give up though they couldn't hear her. She witnessed her funeral and burial, feeling dirt covering her before awakening very ill and drugged for several days. This caused panic attacks with hospital smells afterward.
Her actual NDE occurred in July 1979, ten days after her last son's quick, uneventful birth. Severe cramping and hemorrhaging led to hospitalization for D&C and blood transfusions. She received all available blood, requiring police to bring more from neighboring town. Blood was administered without cross-matching due to crisis, causing allergic reaction with 107-degree fever. Ice and cooling measures were applied while staff held her shaking feet with heated blankets. When she felt bleeding again and told the doctor (who denied it), she left her body. She experienced no pain, found herself surrounded by pure love and embraced by Jesus. Though she couldn't describe his appearance, she knew his identity. He said it wasn't her time and she should return. Her life review brought shame, but turning to Christ brought pure love and guiltlessness. He explained her mortal behavior was natural, with no judgment. They communicated through hearts and feelings, preventing misunderstanding. When she argued her sons had a great father and cited free agency, he responded with humor: "I'd expect you to argue for your own case!" showing intimate knowledge of her. He then showed her husband's death. Seeing this future death four years hence, she agreed to return to raise her sons, receiving a promise she could return after. Christ emphasized all one brings back is love given and that life concerns loving relationships. She returned to her body laughing with joy. Six weeks before her husband's accident, she saw it in a lucid dream, tried changing the outcome unsuccessfully, and told her husband who dismissed it. The accident occurred exactly as envisioned four years after her NDE.
