Following two knee surgeries and job loss, the experiencer was severely depressed. Three days before the overdose, spirits circled their body with a whirling sound, visible "plain as day" for 30 seconds, followed by a mist above the bed. In desperation, they swallowed 470 blood pressure pills with alcohol. After calling 911, they were given multiple blood transfusions without cross-matching, causing an allergic reaction with 107-degree fever, respiratory failure with severe hypoxia, hypertensive shock, renal and liver failure, and cardiac arrest. They coded and medical staff could not initially restart their heart. They were kept in a drug-induced coma for three days with seizures requiring EEG and CT scans due to concern about brain damage.
During the medical crisis, they sensed a man's presence beside their bed watching and waiting, and heard growling from the sink. They then experienced a very bright light and freedom from their body with wonderful feelings of total peace. They found themselves outside a gate with other beings in bright mist, knowing crossing would be final. A female higher power told them it wasn't their time and they must go back. Upon return, they felt the life support tube in their lungs. They saw mist above their bed the first night back. After 12 days in ICU and four days in psychiatric ward, they returned home feeling given a second chance. The experience brought profound peace, spirituality, and purpose to help others without judgment. The experiencer now studies NDEs extensively, shares their story freely, and has lost all fear of death, viewing it as only the beginning. They thank God daily for their second chance and feel total peace with a renewed desire to live.
