A counselor enrolled in a clinical hypnotherapy program experienced severe chest pain during his second hypnosis session. He had been previously diagnosed with heart disease and had similar episodes before. During the relaxation phase, the pain intensified to unbearable levels - feeling like a ton of weight on his chest. Convinced he was dying of a heart attack, he heard a loud clapping sound followed by a "whoosh" and found himself out of his body, above and to the left of it.
A long, thin, swirling dark purple vortex appeared, connecting to his forehead and winding out as far as he could see. He next found himself in complete peaceful silence in the presence of a brilliant white/blue light totally filled with love and acceptance. He wanted to merge with the Light more than anything. The Light communicated telepathically, saying "Give me your grief." This related to deep sorrow from his painful divorce years earlier, particularly the trauma to his two daughters. The experience transformed into a vision where he saw himself as a six-year-old boy unable to reach a container marked "Grief" on a high shelf - reflecting childhood abuse and feelings of helplessness. The Light said "I can!" and two rays of light swept down, took his grief, and embraced him completely with love and acceptance he had craved as a child. The pain vanished completely. Later tests revealed no heart attack occurred, though he would eventually need three stents and a pacemaker. The experience profoundly changed his life - he shifted from fundamentalist to universalistic religious views, simplified his lifestyle, lost all fear of death, and dedicated himself to helping others. Days later, while driving, he heard the same telepathic voice commanding him to "Grow!"
