Thirty minutes after delivering her second child, the experiencer developed severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. Despite trying to stay calm, she felt increasingly lightheaded. Her blood pressure dropped to 74 systolic. The midwife administered oxytocin to her thigh which she couldn't feel due to numbness. Her breathing became restricted and she was pulled deep inside herself, traveling upward as if in an elevator thinking "Oh, here we go" as if knowing the destination. She reached a window where three figures sat around a table - her deceased maternal grandmother (died when she was 8), maternal grandfather (died before her birth but recognized with certainty), and "God" (despite not believing in God, later understanding God as the energy of love). They were having a meeting: grandmother relaxed and radiating that everything was alright, grandfather somewhat agitated advising God, and God smiling calmly. She gained understanding of herself and others, made a decision (possibly about life path or returning), then plummeted back to her body. Her blood pressure reached 60/30 at the lowest. The midwife reported she appeared to lose consciousness repeatedly, though she felt conscious throughout - realizing she was conscious to herself while appearing lifeless to others. This changed her entire perception of consciousness. She became obsessed with understanding consciousness and researching NDEs, eventually accepting the unknown after intense searching.
