On September 29, 2015, the experiencer overdosed and was found lying on the living room floor with eyes open and not blinking, exhibiting very shallow breathing. Emergency services were called, and the person was placed on life support in intensive care. The husband found the person and was not allowed in the ambulance, having to take public transport to the hospital due to financial constraints. Upon arrival, he found the patient connected to multiple machines with a swollen left forearm from thrashing, either from seizures or other causes. The medical team administered the largest possible dose of propofol to stop the thrashing.
While on life support, the person experienced being very alert in darkness, knowing they were in a different realm with only God's presence. There was no fear despite wondering if this was purgatory or eternal suspension. The experience was characterized by feeling whole, unconditionally loved, forgiven, and accepted in ways never before experienced. The person felt suspended above their body without suffering, basking in a pool of total love and acceptance, with thoughts that eternity in this state would be acceptable. There was relief from recent abuse by self, family, and husband. The primary observation was the awareness of being in complete darkness yet knowing God's presence was there, feeling unprecedented love, wholeness, forgiveness and acceptance. The person was suspended above their body in a state of pure love without any suffering. The person awoke on September 30 to see their husband in intensive care, with "Unresponsive" written on the board. Initially, there was extreme anger about being brought back and about how life had been lived in fear and people-pleasing. The person walked out of ICU on October 1 at 10:30 PM while heavily medicated. The NDE resulted in complete healing from mental illness symptoms, with the person no longer showing signs of Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosed in 2012 after 30 years of therapy.
