In 1997, while resting in bed feeling tired and depressed, the experiencer suddenly popped out of his body through his head and began floating above the bed. His spiritual body then entered head-first through a long tunnel that materialized from nowhere. Initially frightening, his essence began speeding up and collapsing into a tiny ball of light. As he decreased in size, his awareness expanded. He became aware of other spiritual beings in the tunnel - some traveling in his direction, others the opposite way, and some remaining stationary, emanating bewilderment and confusion.
After what seemed like eons, he reached the end of the tunnel and entered a vast, brilliant field of light - an energy field like walking on the sun's surface without heat. The light encompassed everything paradoxically as both nothingness and everything. His initial fear was instantly replaced by immense love, happiness, and joy when the light sensed his fear and calmed him. The light and experiencer began exchanging thoughts, feelings, and knowledge telepathically, like two computers swapping data instantaneously. When asked "What have you done with your life?", he experienced a non-sequential life review where he could feel, think, and experience the emotions of everyone he had ever contacted, witnessing the cascading effects of his actions like dominoes. The light showed him that trivial moments, like feeding a stray cat as a child in Arizona (which they later adopted and named Birdy), held extraordinary meaning. The light revealed that everything happens for karmic reasons and all beings are connected. When asked if he wanted to progress further into the light, he initially agreed due to depression and loneliness. However, the light showed him his unborn daughter playing in a field with a dog, telling him that if he continued, she would never be born and couldn't experience earthly life. He chose to return for her sake. Since the NDE, he has experienced eight angel visitations and encounters, including seeing his unborn daughter with an angel named Susan. When his grandmother died in 2002, he encountered a mysterious white Alaskan Malamute that matched the dog from his NDE vision - possibly a spiritual guardian or his grandmother's spirit. The experience left him with light sensitivity, perception of spiritual entities, increased psychic abilities, and additional OBEs.
