In November 2002, the experiencer was deeply depressed after losing possessions and feeling like a failure as a mother. She overdosed on Zoloft in a suicide attempt, telling God "you don't want me here so I am leaving." After initially passing out and surprisingly surviving, she experienced a prolonged paralysis lasting approximately two days while caring for her nine-year-old son alone. During this time, she could not move her body but remained conscious, watching her son from a fetal position on the floor.
The experience intensified with severe pain behind her left ear and neck, feeling like surgery was being performed on her brain. She felt completely separated from her body - her mind and body disconnected, though she wasn't floating above. As her organs began shutting down one by one with excruciating pain, she could feel each organ cease functioning until only her heart remained, beating slower and slower. At the point of death, she saw pale visions of two Jesus-like beings and a cloud-type being before her eyes. When her heart was nearly stopped, she declared "I want to live" - first in her mind, then whispered, then shouted. She took a huge gasping breath, inhaling some of the cloud being, and her heart began beating again. She felt she had experienced a void - "a horrible, undescribable lonely, ugly feeling" like having "one leg in hell and one leg in heaven." After the experience, she was hospitalized for three days in the ER, then transferred to a mental hospital. She expressed profound gratitude for surviving, saying God's grace gave her this opportunity when she "should have gone to hell." Her life and her son's life were completely transformed by the experience, filling her with gratitude for every minute of life.
