At the end of the tunnel was a light described as "blue light to the other side of life." The experiencer was given a choice to either continue down the tunnel toward the light or return to their body. During this decision point, they were informed that if they chose to wake up, they would be very ill and experience great pain for a while. The experiencer engaged in a discussion with the beings about having just had their second child and that continuing would mean leaving the children for their husband to raise alone. They consciously decided to return, reasoning that leaving would not be fair to the children. This demonstrates a clear decision-making process and awareness during the experience. Upon choosing to return, the experiencer awakened and called for assistance. They subsequently spent several weeks in the intensive care unit recovering from the medical crisis. The experiencer did not speak about this experience for several years afterward, suggesting its profound personal impact.
