In July 2021, on the same day her father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, Thea passed out at 4:30 am and was life-flighted to the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. She had lost half her blood and went through all bodily stages of dying except her heart didn't flatline. During this crisis, she experienced a wave of all earthly stresses washing away followed by the most overwhelming feeling of love she had ever felt, beyond words.
The primary purpose of her experience was revealed to her: to let her know that her mother, who had died alone from a head injury in 2020, didn't suffer and was at peace, and that her father would also be at peace when his time came. After her father passed, she struggled with grief until one night a bright pinhole light pierced through her window, expanding toward her. The light was extremely bright but comfortable, and when she reached toward it, her hand melted into it rather than blocking it. She knew she had to turn away because it wasn't her time. The veridical element involves an early childhood out-of-body experience around age one (1972) that she suddenly remembered after her NDE. She had fallen from a car into a deep southern ditch and observed the entire scene from above, seeing her parents searching for her, noting her mother's pretty hair and what they wore. She saw her father frantically calling her name. She was suddenly back in her body in the ditch when a cockroach crawled toward her face, causing her to scream, which alerted her parents to her location. Through these experiences, Thea gained certainty about life after death and the reality of existing outside the physical body. She experienced deep healing from grief and gained expanded religious understanding beyond her previous Christian beliefs.
