At age 8, Dina was floating down the Yakima River with family friends when their boat stalled near shore. While sitting on the boat's front with another child during an argument, she either slipped or was pushed and fell off while the boat was being pulled to shore. She distinctly remembers hitting her head on the boat's bottom right side four times as it was pulled over her, with her feet unable to touch bottom.
Dina then experienced a tunnel of bright white light with memories flashing past her head at warp speed from both sides. The memories whipped by like a movie at incredible velocity, containing far more experiences than her eight years of life would account for. She felt no worry or fear during this experience, instead feeling wonder, confusion, awe, excitement, incredible peace and joy. The experience gave her a sense of unity with the world. After an unknown duration in the memory tunnel, Dina found herself facing shore despite having faced downriver during the experience. She suddenly found footing, stumbled to shore coughing up water while her mother yelled at her. That night or the next day, while sitting on her bed, she had what seemed like a conversation with someone unseen, saying "I don't want this! I don't want to do this anymore!" She desperately tried to remember the amazing memories from the tunnel but slept for hours and woke feeling different, no longer afraid. She didn't understand what happened until the 1980s when NDEs were first described on TV, recognizing "Oh, that's what happened to me." The experience may have included glimpses of her future and past lives, and she wonders if she had a soul exchange due to her emotional state immediately after.
