While being pulled under by waves and running out of breath, he suddenly found himself transported to his living room, vividly seeing both parents sitting on the couch in complete silence. The experience was remarkably realistic despite his condition of aphantasia (inability to visualize mental images normally). He described floating above himself in crystal clear blue water with sun rays shining through, experiencing extraordinary peace and quiet unlike anything he'd known before, particularly notable given his ADHD. The experience felt timeless - though drowning for less than 10 minutes, it seemed like hours. He felt a profound sense of unity with the world and incredible peacefulness. The decision to return came from concern for his parents' grief if he died. After being pulled from the water, his vision turned black and white, and he vomited saltwater. The experience produced lasting changes including reduced fear of trying new things and less concern about others' opinions. The vividness of the mental imagery during the NDE stands in stark contrast to his normal inability to visualize, suggesting an altered state of consciousness during the life-threatening event.
