Jeff underwent cardiac catheter examination to check previously inserted stents. While awake and alert on the table with catheter inserted via inner thigh, the cardiologist asked if he felt the probe. Jeff closed his eyes to focus internally, feeling his attention going deeper like during meditation. His heart stopped during the procedure requiring CPR and resuscitation.
During clinical death, Jeff felt very calm in a soft, comfortable darkness. He could feel the presence of others including someone he believed was his father who had passed in 2011. There was non-verbal communication providing assurances that everything was exactly as it should be. Time seemed to stop or slow dramatically. Upon opening his eyes, he was surprised to see medical staff scrambling around and said "Wow! I must've fallen asleep." Staff replied "Yeah, something like that." Years later during cardiac testing, Jeff recognized a nurse-practitioner from his NDE. When he said "Nice to see you again," the man gave a strange look saying "We've never met." Jeff tried to pin him down but the nurse was clearly uncomfortable and unwilling to talk. Jeff knows he was in that room during the NDE, possibly the one who applied defibrillation, despite the denial. The experience left Jeff with certainty about his spiritual nature and that physical life isn't our ultimate existence. He developed strong interest in understanding spirituality, daily meditation and reflection habits, and regular reading about God, religion, and philosophy. He's more selective about relationships, no longer wasting energy on negative ones while being more appreciative of positive connections.
