James arrived at the hospital for a medical test to investigate sustained low blood pressure related to hypothyroidism. The test required cortisol injection to monitor levels over time. Immediately after injection while in a comfortable hospital chair, he felt the substance course through his veins and enter his stomach, becoming sick and weak. To cope, he focused his mind outside himself as in meditation.
He felt himself going backwards, sinking into and through the chair while blackness closed in from the sides like a dome closing over him. Feeling distressed and aware he was dying, he asked not to die now as he wanted to retire to Thailand and teach English. As darkness enveloped him, his life from birth rapidly shot through his mind with imagery and emotions from family hurt, but also understanding their hurt. He was told clearly he had suffered from them as darkness completely enveloped him. He became aware of receding from his body into vast space, initially going backwards to something behind him while maintaining directional awareness despite having no physical form. Moving back slowly at first with complete awareness of leaving his body, he wanted to return to continue life in peace. He felt arms he didn't physically have grasping to return, then sensation of peace with acceptance. Something on either side held him floating - friendly presences that became swirling light enveloping him from behind. He was directed forward toward many destinations through a tunnel with something indescribable around him. Coming out toward light into the hospital room, he was conscious but confused. Initially emerging in the "wrong place" with Black African staff, his mind said he needed to return to the UK. Darkness came again with rapid backwards movement until halted and guided forward through the right tunnel. A voice said "yes, this way" as he was spun and sent forward, staring into a white female nurse's eye who shouted "yes, now fight!" He slammed back into his body taking an extremely painful breath.
